A missing result does not prove release. The name may be spelled differently, the reporting system may be delayed, or the person may be held by another authority. Read Montcalm VINELink Release Fields
A VINE result is an event record from a reporting custodian. It can indicate that the custodian reports the person as released or moved, but it is not a certified certificate and does not resolve every legal status. Read all available fields as a group. A date without its event label can be mistaken for a release when it may refer to a transfer or another update.

“Released” means the reporting custodian says its custody ended. It does not rule out another warrant, detainer, or receiving agency. “Transfer” means custody may continue elsewhere. For a state prisoner, OTIS adds a different set of dates, including Date Paroled and Discharge Date. Those official MDOC labels should not be replaced by a general VINE event date.
Note: A court release order gives legal authority, while the jail or prison event records when the physical custody change was reported.
Register Montcalm County Release Alerts

The PIN acknowledges a telephone event. Michigan’s current MI-VINE brochure states that unacknowledged calls may repeat for up to 24 hours. Email and text send one message for the event instead. Montcalm County VINE Confirmation
Montcalm County maintains a local VINE layer rather than leaving residents to find the state service on their own. Its page uses the older “Michigan Crime Victim Notification Network” wording while directing users to the same statewide service. It provides the 800-770-7657 number and confirms both internet and telephone custody checks. The local chain is simple: use VINE for the event signal, then call the Montcalm County Jail status line at 989-831-7592 when jail confirmation is needed.
The Montcalm Victim/Witness Services page also points people to the jail and VINELink status channels. This route is especially useful when the event is urgent or a record says “transfer.” Staff can confirm which office is the right source, but a phone answer still is not the durable record of release.

Montcalm Release Versus MDOC Status
A county-jail custody event and an MDOC status answer different questions. MI-VINE may report that Montcalm County Jail released or transferred a person. OTIS, the Michigan Offender Tracking Information System, is the correct public source for a prison sentence, parole status, probation status, or final MDOC discharge. OTIS is not a Montcalm County booking archive.

Direct victims seeking the broader notice set may also register through MDOC Crime Victims Services at 877-886-5401. That program can address prison, parole eligibility, hearing, decision, transfer, and release notices beyond a general state custody alert. Each channel should be used for the custody class it actually covers.
OTIS and VINE also serve different time frames. VINE is designed to report a custody event and deliver notice. OTIS can retain a discharged MDOC profile for a limited public period and may show the sentence, supervision, discharge reason, and dates attached to it. For an older Montcalm jail stay with no MDOC term, the county release record and court record are stronger historical sources because OTIS does not include every local booking.
Limits on Montcalm VINELink Checks
MI-VINE can lag behind an agency event. A wrong spelling, stale phone number, data delay, or transfer can also block a timely match or alert. No result should be read as proof that the person is free. Likewise, a release result from one custodian does not prove that no other authority took custody.
Important: MI-VINE does not cover federal BOP custody, does not promise a permanent release history, and does not replace confirmation by the reporting agency.
For Montcalm County Jail, confirm with the status line or request the county’s existing booking and release record through the Sheriff’s Office Records route. For Carson City Correctional Facility or another state prison, check OTIS and use MDOC records when a formal parole or discharge document is needed.
