Montcalm Booking Photo Records
A booking photograph records a person's appearance during a specific booking. It is tied to an arrest or custody event, not to a finding that the person committed the charged offense. Release ends physical custody at that facility. It does not erase the underlying agency record. In Montcalm County, the sheriff's records page routes all records through the county Freedom of Information Act process.
Michigan FOIA covers existing public records held in an agency's official work, subject to exemptions. Booking images are agency records within the criminal-history and biometric context described by MCL 28.241a, but that does not guarantee disclosure in every case. Juvenile, sealed, set-aside, expunged, or otherwise exempt information may be withheld or redacted. A request must identify the specific booking and ask for the photo as its own item.
A booking photo identifies an agency record from one event. It does not establish present custody, release, guilt, or current supervision.
Montcalm Released Mugshot Channels
The right source depends on which agency held the person. Montcalm County Jail photos belong to the county records path. Photographs for a person within MDOC jurisdiction may appear in OTIS. A registry image has a much narrower statutory role. News and copied images can add context, but they are not complete or current release records.

MI-VINE is useful for custody status and notifications, but the research did not establish it as a durable Montcalm booking-photo archive. A photo from any channel must be matched to the person and booking date. Similar names and old copies can otherwise lead to the wrong event.
Note: A released person usually leaves a live custody view, while the booking image may remain in the agency's record system.
No Montcalm Mugshot Gallery
No official Montcalm online inmate roster, released archive, recent-release feed, or sheriff inmate mobile app was located in the county sitemap and sheriff-jail sweep. That means there is no official web field showing whether a county booking has a photo. It also means there is no public gallery retention period to report. The proper response is to use the records process, not to guess a vendor or app.
A person held only in Montcalm County Jail may never appear in OTIS because OTIS tracks MDOC jurisdiction. Conversely, a Carson City Correctional Facility image belongs to the statewide MDOC path, even though that prison is within Montcalm County. The county sheriff cannot certify a state-prison image or discharge, and MDOC does not maintain every local arrest photo.
For custody and release verification apart from the photo, the Montcalm County released-inmate search lays out the jail, court, VINE, and OTIS channels. The Montcalm 24-Hour Release List explains the same-day fallback when no roster or gallery exists. Separating the identity image from the release event avoids treating an old photograph as current status evidence.
Request Montcalm Booking Photos
The Sheriff's Office Records page sends all sheriff-record requests through FOIA. A narrow request is more useful than asking the county to create a mugshot list. Identify the person and booking, then request the maintained image and release record as distinct items. One may exist or be disclosable when the other is not.
- Open the Montcalm County FOIA form.
- Give the full name and date of birth. Add the booking number and a narrow booking date range if known.
- Ask for the “booking photograph associated with this booking” and its image date.
- In a separate item, ask for the booking and release record, release date and time, disposition, and receiving agency if maintained.
- Request electronic delivery and a fee estimate. Wait for the county's calculated charge before paying.

Box 368, Stanton, MI 48888, fax to 989-831-7375, or hand delivery to the County Controller's office on the third floor at 211 W Main Street. Process questions and paper forms go to 989-831-7300, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Michigan law generally sets a five-business-day response period and permits one extension of up to ten business days. The response may grant, deny, partly grant, state that no record is maintained, seek a deposit, or cite an exemption.
County FOIA charges can include permitted search and review labor, authorized separation or redaction work, copies priced up to ten cents for each standard sheet, and actual mailing cost. The county instructs requesters to wait for its charge notice. The sheriff's separate prices for general non-FOIA reports, added color-photo pages, DVDs, and flash drives describe different products. They do not promise what a booking image will cost or whether it can be disclosed. The county's FOIA page documents the submission and payment route, so review the official county source before sending a request.
The image confirms that a booking-photo request goes to the central county FOIA process rather than an unpublished photo gallery.
Montcalm MDOC Offender Photos
MDOC OTIS is the strongest public state-photo route. A profile can show a dated offender image, MDOC and SID numbers, physical descriptors, current status, assigned location, sentences, Date Paroled, or Discharge Date. A Parolee status means the person left prison but remains under MDOC supervision. Discharged means MDOC jurisdiction ended for the relevant record.
OTIS is not permanent. MDOC says a discharged profile may be removed three years after discharge, while later supervision can begin a new period. Court-ordered set-aside matters are removed as required. Therefore, no result or no photo does not prove that the person was never in state custody. For a durable image, MDOC FOIA can be asked for the latest maintained offender photograph as a distinct record.
The Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry may display a photo for a person who is legally required to appear there. That registry has a specific legal function. It is not a general list of released Montcalm County inmates, and it does not supply a booking release time.
Montcalm Sheriff Photo Posts
The Sheriff News Releases page says all Montcalm County Sheriff's Office news releases are posted on the official Facebook page. Selected incident posts may include an official arrest image, scene image, or later case context, but the feed has no fixed booking-photo scope. It is not a release ledger, current roster, or complete archive. A missing post proves nothing about whether someone was booked, transferred, or released. Likewise, an old post does not establish present custody. Confirm the event with the agency record and the right court or corrections source. Local news may republish an image, but that is secondary context and can remain after the source record changes.

The image supports the limited news-channel role without turning selected posts into a mugshot or release database.
Note: Commercial copies may be stale or detached from later case events, so they should never replace the originating agency record.
Montcalm Photo Request Split
Montcalm's records structure makes one detail especially important: ask for the booking image and release record separately. The release record documents the end of custody at the jail, including the time, disposition, or receiving agency if maintained. The image documents appearance at booking. Neither record must be attached to the other.
That split also helps when exemptions differ. An agency may release part of a booking record, redact some details, withhold a nonpublic image, or state that an item is not maintained. Asking for distinct records lets the county answer each part. The request should seek existing records rather than demand a custom photo list that the county does not publish.
This privately run reference is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Mugshot information may not be used for credit, employment, tenant, insurance, or any other FCRA-covered purpose.
Montcalm Mugshots After Set-Aside
Michigan set-aside and expungement rules can make covered court and agency records nonpublic. Under MCL 780.621g, eligible records may be set aside when statutory conditions are met. Official systems then follow the court order and nonpublic-record rules. A person seeking correction or removal from an official source should contact the agency that controls that source and provide the relevant order.
No authoritative Michigan statute creating a specific commercial mugshot pay-to-remove rule was verified in the research. A widely circulated citation for such a rule does not appear in the official statutory index and should not be relied upon. A private publisher's policy is separate from the county's FOIA duties, and no removal service can guarantee that every prior copy will vanish.
Removal from OTIS, a court portal, or a sheriff file's public response does not ensure deletion of an image already copied by a news or commercial source. Those copies may also lose the later dismissal, sentence, or release context. For the official record, work with the originating court or agency. Avoid services that claim they can change a government record without that authority.
Note: An empty official search can reflect retention, set-aside, or access rules rather than proof that no past booking occurred.
